After a 90-day trial period and a strict “invitation only” policy, Google+ opened to the public this week. Facebook responded with more layout changes that are strikingly similar to its growing competitor.

Since its launch, Google+ has made 100 tweaks and additions to the social networking service, which has already surpassed the mark of 20 million users. To learn more about Google+’s latest updates, click here.

As the current leader of the social networking sphere, Facebook has undergone its own facelift in reaction to Google+’s growing presence. This week Facebook unveiled a new look for its “news feed,” which now customizes top stories for users based on how frequently they log in to their accounts. The news feed change includes a real-time news ticker above the chat window, which allows users to hover over each update and view more information specific to the post without having to leave the homepage. To learn more about Facebook’s news feed change, click here.
